What is an ADU?
An accessory dwelling unit is a secondary living unit that the State of California has allowed since 2016.
An ADU can be used as an income unit, a unit for extended family, or for additional livable area.
An ADU comes in many shapes and forms such as converting an existing structure like a garage or recreation room, a new ground-up ADU, or converting an existing part of house.
The requirements for an ADU:
Up to 1,200 SF
Kitchen
Bathroom
Separate Entrance
What is a Junior ADU?
The Junior ADU is a new concept brought forth by the State of California in 2020. It allows for an additional smaller ADU on single and multi-family residence.
The requirements for a Junior ADU:
Up to 500 SF
Must be an existing structure
Kitchen
Bathroom
Separate Entrance
